The project consists of a 450-room resort hotel complex located on Cosón beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Samaná peninsula, in the north-east of the island. This project will be managed by the architectural firm Roberto Rijo, with his company Estructa, and will have an investment of over 90 million dollars.

The resort is developed along the coastline, allowing most rooms to enjoy the beachfront and views of the unique landscape of fine sand, crystal clear waters and lush vegetation that surrounds it.

These spaces open onto a paved promenade in front of the beach, the Boulevard of the Sea, which recreates the famous fishing village of Las Terrenas, a tourist attraction that develops along the coastal strip of this locality and is the result of the commercial transformation of the typical fishermen’s ranches. The terraced layout and the curved shape of the blocks are a gesture of reverence towards the unique character of the place.

Rincón Bay, a tourist project on the beach of Rincón, will revive the destiny of Samaná.

The main objective of the Rincón Bay development is to offer a first class tourist destination that contributes to the sustainable growth of the region, in harmony with the environment.

The total area of the project is approximately 9,000,000 m2 with 2,450 linear metres of beachfront land and a capacity of 9,625 rooms, to be used for real estate and hotel development.

Project facilities will include an 18-hole PGA golf course, golf clubhouse, equestrian centre, sports areas, beach club and spa facilities in addition to hotels. Shops, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities will be integrated into a village.

The project has been designed to reflect the abundance of natural resources while respecting and caring for the natural beauty of the surroundings. The project will ensure that all building and finishing materials are consistent with environmental preservation and integration.

The master plan includes seven beachfront hotels with a total of 4,572 rooms. A Beach Club will provide beach access for visitors and residents.

The remaining 5,053 rooms will be divided into residential units, divided into two types: villas and flats. The exterior design of each residence will conform to established architectural standards and design criteria to maintain a similar façade and ensure integration with the overall complex.

The Spanish group Piñero has reopened its Bahía Príncipe Grand Portillo hotel in Las Terrenas in April 2021, in a ceremony attended by the country’s president, Luis Abinader.

The reopening required an investment of US$10 million, brought 464 rooms and will generate 400 direct jobs, Abinader said at the ceremony attended by Antonio Teijeiro, general manager of Bahía Principe Hotels.

Today’s event, Abinader said in his speech, “is more than the reopening of a business or a company. It is an act of normalisation and hope for thousands of people” who make their living from the industry.

After praising the natural attractions of Samaná, which he described as a “magical” place, the Dominican president affirmed that tourism in his country “is solid” and that, despite the current situation that tourism is going through, “it is adapting to constant transformations” in order to continue its growth.

For his part, Teijeiro described Samaná, where the tourist enclave of Las Terrenas is located, as “a natural jewel” that they want to preserve.

Tourism is the Dominican Republic’s main source of income and, after a decline in 2020, it began to show signs of growth in March, when 263,857 foreign visitors arrived in the country, an increase of 56% over arrivals recorded in February 2021, and 3.4% over March 2020, according to official data.
