The reconstruction of the Fishermen’s Village

SAMANA – The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated on January 10, 2023 the works of several projects in the municipalities of Las Terrenas and El Limon, Samana, among which are the paving of the streets, the lighting, the access to the beaches, the reconstruction of the Fishermen’s Village, among others.

These works, which represent an investment of more than 272 million pesos, are part of the strategic plan implemented by Minister Collado to strengthen the tourist offer of Samana.

“The Pueblo de los Pescadores, a true symbol of this beautiful tourist destination, blessed by nature”.

“In addition, today we begin the reconstruction of the access road to Playa Estillero in El Limón, so I reiterate my commitment that the Ministry of Tourism will invest the necessary resources and with the transparency that characterizes us to continue promoting Samaná, which is one of the most valuable destinations in our country,” said the official.

The project Plaza del Pueblo de los Pescadores is a work of an intervention area of 4,930 m² of construction. The 190 linear metres of roadway will be paved along the entire frontage, and a 960 m² square will be created to integrate the surroundings with the shops.

In addition to having 3 accesses to the beach, the project will house 10 modules for food sales, as well as 2 modules for toilets, an information point, general service rooms, lighting and signage.

The works include, among others, general lighting, landscaping, security system, cistern, pump sump, speed bumps, litter bins and bicycle parking.

Road rehabilitation in El Limon

At the same time, the reconstruction of the access road to Playa Estillero, in the municipality of El Limón, consists of the rehabilitation of the two-lane road of 2.50 metres each, which connects Estillero beach to the Las Terrenas road, over a length of 2.45 kilometres, divided into four roads to the beach.

The project includes the repair of existing speed bumps, lighting and cleaning of the road. It will also include the construction of concrete ditches, embankment protection, concrete work and horizontal and vertical road signs.

PRESIDENTE JUAN BOSCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, SAMANÁ (El Catey)

The Presidente Juan Bosch International Airport, located in El Catey, was built with the aim of developing tourist activity in the north-eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

This airport terminal started its operations on November the 1st of 2006 receiving weekly international flights from major cities in Europe and North America.

In January 2022, 27 flights landed at Samaná Airport, or 7 flights per week or 1 flight per day.

The most frequent flights to Samaná are from Montreal (YUL) in Canada and Charlotte (CLT) in the USA.  

With the arrival of the first Air Europa flight on July 17, the Piñero Group has initiated the direct connection from Madrid, Spain to Samaná.

The company indicates that these first summer flights are 100% full, which means that 270 travellers arrive each week from Madrid to Samaná, thus contributing to the progressive opening of tourism in all the destinations of the Dominican Republic.
